The OASIS assessment

When OASIS first meets with you, we will conduct an assessment. This is a conversation about how you are feeling and what's been happening for you recently. We’ll also ask about how you’ve been getting on with the important things in your life – like study, work or relationships.

The assessment helps us understand what support you would benefit from. For some people we suggest a different service to OASIS if we think we can't best meet your needs.

It lasts about 90 minutes and you can bring a friend or family member too. Everything you tell us is confidential and you don't have to tell us anything you don't want to.

The assessment was really good … It felt like a good, safe environment to open up about my trauma which led to me developing attenuated psychotic symptoms. My assessors were really reassuring. It was a good process and I felt safe to talk about both my mental state and personal experiences – OASIS service user

Why is the assessment important?

  • To build up a well-rounded picture of you, your life, and what you may need help with

  • To see whether OASIS is the best service to support you, and if not then to decide what service would be most appropriate

What happens after the assessment?

  • We will either meet you face to face or speak with you over the phone to offer our impression of your difficulties. Together, we'll make a plan for your next steps

  • Whether you are accepted to OASIS or not, we will share coping strategies with you and offer advice for managing your difficulties
